We’re seeing warmer temperatures, but it’s possible that you are still finding critters taking shelter from cold nights in your home.
Rats certainly seem scary and gross, and they're far more intelligent than you might think! Learn more about these creepy creatures to help keep your mind at ease until help arrives:
⭐ Rats can solve problems as quickly as dogs can. In fact, if you have one as a pet, it can learn its name, and even tricks!
⭐ They have an incredible memory. Although their eyesight is poor, a rat will never forget paths that it knows.
⭐ If a rat is having fun, or even being tickled, it will laugh. The sound it emits is kind of like a chirp, but sounds very similar to human laughter.
⭐ When presented with the option to help out a friend in need or receive a chocolate treat (one of their favorites!) a rat will almost always choose to help its friend. They are also known to care for other rats who are sick or injured.
⭐ In fact, if a rat is not surrounded by friends, it will often become lonely and depressed.
⭐ When a rat is together with all of its friends, the entire group is called a mischief.
⭐ The rat is the first animal in the Chinese zodiac. People born in the year of the rat are thought to possess similar traits to the animal, including creativity, intelligence, honesty, ambition, and generosity.
⭐ Though many people find them gross, rats are actually cleaner than cats! Their urine and feces do carry disease, however, so be sure to exercise caution if you find droppings in your home.
⭐ Also much like a cat, one of a rat’s favorite pastimes is napping. On average, a rat will spend 76% of daylight hours sleeping.
⭐ These little guys are practically invincible. A rat can go longer without water than a camel, build up immunities to poisons throughout generations, swim for half a mile in open water, survive large doses of radiation, and can even fall five stories without injury!
We know you definitely don’t want a rat to make itself cozy in your home or business. If you find yourself face to face with one of these furry friends, be sure to contact the rat control experts at American Pest, to keep your property rodent-free.
