MARCH 16 2022 / PEST AND TERMITE
Be it from a mosquito, a spider, a tick, or anything else, we've all experienced the irritation of a bug bite. Most insects do have the capability to bite (although not all of them will), and knowing the characteristics of each one’s mark can help you identify the culprit as well as your best treatment option.
Mosquito Bite: These bites appear almost immediately for some but can be delayed a day or two for others. They tend to take on a reddish-white color. They are raised and often make the victim itch and scratch.
Bed Bug Bite: These bites are typically flat and red. They are usually placed in a line or row and may not show up for hours after the bite.
.
Tick Bite: These bites appear as red bumps, and are easily identifiable being that the tick usually stays in them until you remove it.
Lice Bite: These bites are red and itchy and are found in areas close to the scalp such as the neck and shoulders.
Spider Bite: These bites are typically red in color and will either itch or hurt with varying intensity depending on the type of spider. Spiders usually don't bite unless threatened, including the venomous brown recluse and black widow spider. If you are worried that you have been bitten by a venomous spider, it is important to see a doctor immediately.
You can treat the majority of bug bites with the same methods. Ice packs are great for bringing down any swelling that may result and many topical creams are available to help lessen itching or pain. Some bites, though, can be more severe.
If you are bitten by a bug that is carrying a disease, is venomous, or that you are allergic to, you will need to seek medical help as soon as possible.
